What this is
When a homeowner asks Claude for a roofer or a remodeler, a short list of local companies comes back again and again, and a long tail comes up once or twice. These pages name that short core for each trade and city of our October study, with the number of answers that named each company.
Each city’s page holds 6 lists, one per trade, and a study-wide look at what the websites of companies Claude named often have in common. The lists are part of How Claude picks contractors, our study of how Claude answers buyer questions about local contractors.

The method in five lines
- In October 2026 we asked Claude the 9 unbranded buyer questions of our AI Visibility Benchmark for 6 trades in 4 cities. Claude could search the web while it answered.
- We asked each question four times: 36 answers per city and trade.
- The study was planned as counts only. After we collected the answers, we decided to publish the names Claude gave most often, with the checks below.
- We checked each company’s name, city and trade, and that it is open, on its own website or, where the site blocked our checker, on its BBB profile and other public listings. We read every sentence that names a company for tone, and a company Claude mentioned mainly as a caution is left out.
- A list holds up to 10 companies named in at least 8 of the 36 answers, in three bands by that count and alphabetical within each band.

A company that asks not to be named is shown as “a company that asked not to be named”, and its count stays, so the other numbers on the page do not change. Every change is dated below.
