AI search optimization (AI SEO) for home service companies

Show up when customers ask ChatGPT and Google AI who to hire

AI search optimization (also called AI SEO, AEO or GEO) is the work of making your business easy for AI assistants to find, understand and recommend. For a home service company, that mostly means a strong Google Business Profile, accurate listings, fresh reviews and a website that answers real customer questions.

Customers now ask AI who to call

45%

45% of US consumers now use ChatGPT or other AI tools for local business recommendations, up from 6% a year earlier.

32–38%

In BrightLocal's study of 200k+ localized AI searches, Google Maps named a tracked business in 66% of searches; ChatGPT, AI Mode and AI Overviews named it in only 32–38%.

AI search sits on the same foundation as Google Maps: your website, your Google Business Profile, your reviews and your listings. That foundation is what we fix.

What AI assistants read before they recommend a local business

No one outside OpenAI or Google knows the exact recipe. But studies of local AI answers keep pointing to the same sources:

  • Your website: service pages that say what you do, where, and roughly what it costs.
  • Your Google Business Profile: categories, services, hours, photos and reviews.
  • Your listings: Bing Places, Apple Business, Yelp, BBB, Angi and trade directories, all saying the same thing.
  • Your reviews: how many, how recent, and how you reply.
  • Mentions elsewhere: local "best of" lists, local news, associations and sponsorships.

86% of AI citations came from brands' own websites (44%) and managed listings (42%).

That's why AI search isn't a separate add-on here. It's the same plan as your Google and Maps work.

AEO, GEO and LLMO for home service companies

You'll hear three names for overlapping work. For a roofer or a window installer it comes down to one job: when a homeowner asks an AI assistant who to call, your company comes up, with the right facts.

AEOanswer engine optimization

GEOgenerative engine optimization
Making sure assistants like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, plus Google's AI Mode, can find your business, trust it and cite it when they write an answer.

We do all three together with local SEO, because AI answers lean on the same Google, Maps and listing data.

Local SEO

What we do every month

  • Every month we run 25 to 150 buyer questions through the AI assistants we test (currently ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity), depending on your plan. They're the questions your customers actually ask, and we compare the answers with the competitors you name.
  • We publish 1 to 4 answer-first pages a month, built from your real jobs: photos, price ranges, local details.
  • We keep your Google Business Profile, listings and credentials accurate (directories, manufacturer locators, associations) and post real job photos to your profile.
  • We ask every customer for a review, with no rewards and no filtering, and draft a reply to every new one.
  • We get you onto the sites AI assistants cite for your buyer questions where you're not listed yet, such as best-of lists and review sites. Every month we also interview the assistants about you and fix the wrong facts they repeat at their source. On Growth and Leader, we also ask why they'd pick a competitor. On Growth and Leader, we send a short-video script each month, then edit and post the clips you film on your phone.
  • You get a plain-English monthly report: what shipped, what the AI answers said, and what we'll do next.

How we measure, without pretending AI answers are stable

AI answers change from one run to the next. So every month we ask the same fixed set of questions on a set date, and report how often you're named next to the competitors you chose. We read the trend over several months, not a single run.

Your Understood score has two parts. Whether AI can read your site stays steady for the same site. How often you're named counts for more, and it can move between runs even when nothing on your side changed.

What we won't do

  • No mass-produced AI articles or copy-paste city pages.
  • No fake reviews, no review gating and no paid-for reviews.
  • No fake posts, fake offices or fake profiles.
  • No bought links, no parasite pages and no paid "best of" spots.
  • No charging for work we miss.
  • No hidden prices and no fake urgency.

AI search optimization questions

What's the difference between AEO, GEO and LLMO?

They're three names for overlapping work. AEO aims at the direct answers search engines and AI assistants give. GEO aims at being named and cited when an AI writes an answer. LLMO describes the same work from the model's side: clear, consistent facts about your business wherever the models read. For a home service company we treat them as one job, done together with local SEO.

Which AI assistants do you check?

ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, for the monthly plans and for the $49 and $149 reports. We ask each one through its developer API with web search on, so the consumer apps can answer differently. We name only the assistants we actually run.

How does ChatGPT decide which local businesses to recommend?

No one outside OpenAI knows exactly. Studies of local AI answers show they lean on sources a business controls: 86% of AI citations came from brands' own websites (44%) and managed listings (42%) (Yext, 6.8M citations across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, Jul–Aug 2025; Yext client/prospect locations). We strengthen those sources and check the answers every month.

Do I need llms.txt or special schema for AI?

Not for Google: it says no special markup or AI text files are required for its AI features. We keep your structured data accurate because it helps machines read your pages. It's hygiene, not a switch.

Is AI search worth it if most people still use Google?

95% of ChatGPT users also use Google—unchanged from Sept 2025 to May 2026 (Similarweb). Only 18% of consumers who use AI for local search felt ready to contact the business it recommended; the rest kept researching on Google and other channels (BrightLocal, 2026). Only about 8% of local-intent searches show an AI Overview, versus about 21% of all keywords (Ahrefs, 146M desktop SERPs, Sept 2025). So we treat Google, Maps and AI as one job.

Do you write content with AI?

We use AI for research and first drafts. A person edits every page and checks every fact, and you approve it before it goes live.

Can you get us mentioned on Reddit or in "best of" lists?

Not by posting as fake customers. That breaks Reddit's rules and FTC rules, so if you answer questions there, do it openly as the owner. For best-of lists, we submit and nominate you where lists are earned, starting with the ones AI assistants cite for your buyer questions. We report every submission and never buy "Top 3" placements.
